Staying the in the yurt at Harptree Court, a review

The Yurt at Harptree Court

The Yurt at Harptree Court

First of all, throw away any pre-conceived ideas you have about glamping and yurts. Now, picture a large yurt, not one yurt, but a three pod yurt. Fill that yurt with beautiful rugs, Georgian antiques and a log burner. Imagine a kitchen, fridge, sink, dishwasher and gas hob. Sounds amazing doesn't it? But don't stop there, add a roll top bath, flushing toilet and sink. That my friends is the Yurt at Harptree Court.

This yurt is available to book exclusively through Canopy & Stars, who handpick beautiful and special places to stay both here in the UK and abroad. The Yurt at Harptree Court is located near to Bath, Bristol and Wells, making it the ideal base for days out exploring. This Yurt for two is not suitable for children or pets and is available from £120 per night.

The open plan kitchen and living area is spacious and well equipped. A comfortable sofa, table and chairs, wood burner, chess table, hat stand and sideboard sit in the living area and in the kitchen there's a belfast sink, dishwasher, fridge, double gas hob, kettle and all the cooking and dining equipment you might need. The hosts Charles and Linda include a free starter pack with the stay and I was delighted to find a homemade lemon cake, homemade strawberry jam, butter, local milk, local bread, bacon from the local smokery just 4 miles away, local sausages and local eggs waiting for me upon my arrival as well as a jar of the most delicious muesli and ground coffee (with cafetiere) and selection of Clipper tea bags and hot chocolate.

Items such as tea towels, washing up liquid and cleaning equipment are provided as are towels and toiletries in the bathroom, so you really only need pack your clothes! There's even a selection of nature books in the bedroom, perfect for reading whilst sitting in bed in the morning with the window open and the sun shining.

The bedroom has a very comfortable double bed, a chest of drawers and a sideboard which houses the hairdryer. There's a DAB radio with iPod dock and as I mentioned, a selection of books.

Outside the yurt there's a hammock, firepit and table and chairs for some outdoors eating. The yurt is set in a completely private location. It doesn't overlook anyone else and no one overlooks it. The view across the fields is lovely on a Summers evening.

When you stay at the Yurt at Harptree Court you can also explore the beautiful grounds, the 2 acres of Walled Garden is a thing of beauty, I have a whole post just about that to share tomorrow. The gardens are host to ducks, woodpeckers, deer, foxes and birds of prey. Charles and Linda, the hosts, are only too happy to help advise places to eat or visit locally and include a lot of this information in the welcome pack in the yurt itself.

Harptree Court is a stunning location, you might recognize it as it was used to host the Great British Bake Off series 3 & 4. It's a Grade II listed building and has been run by Linda and Charles Hill since 2003. I'll be sharing a little more about the house itself, again in a separate post soon, but here's a few photos to whet your appetite.

My stay was thoroughly enjoyable, I found the yurt to be perfectly equipped in a beautiful and peaceful location. Really recommend this as a special place to stay and savour - I'll be back for sure!
